Hoo-boy, what a week!

With all of the Paradigm-Shifting-From-The-Fourth-Level-of-Hell craziness that was the Most Surreal Election Ever, it’s difficult to remember that people still have real-world problems to deal with. The question put forth by this week’s reader is a timely reminder that everything doesn’t revolve around who ended up becoming the Orange Buffoon in Chief.

This week’s Reader shared the following: After almost 12 years together, roughly 9 of which have involved my husband participating minimally in the relationship, he has now wants to separate. I believe in my heart its best for us to part ways, but I find myself in a deep depression. Can you tell me anything of which I should be mindful as I try to move forward? How do I find my way out of this blackness, and not just function but actually feel joy?

This is pretty heavy stuff, reader, and I’d like to be able to give you easy answers– but that’s not how life works, and the cards tend to reflect that. What we can do is look at what the cards have to say about helping you to cope, and see if we can help you figure out what will give you the strength to do what is necessary to bring you the peace and happiness you seek.

To answer your question, I decided to use a simple three card spread: Body, Mind and Spirit, with a fourth card drawn for advice.

Card 1: 4 of Pentacles

Body: The physical body. Physical existence, material existence. What do you need to be physically happy?

Stability, security. Saving your energy, saving money. Your new middle name is “Scrooge”!

Reader, it seems that what’s going to be most comforting to you at this time is savings– a nest egg. You should start squirreling away every bit of cash that you can. Being secure in your living situation is also extremely important. Having a good network of friends and family may also help you feel more grounded. All of these things will go a long way towards allowing you to get through this trying time with grace. Eat well, take care of your physical health. If you’re ailing, it’s hard to help anyone else, so make sure you’re at your best!

Card 2: Queen of Cups

Mind: What do you need to stimulate your mind in a positive way? What ideas are you ruminating on? What are you analyzing?

Compassionate person. Good listener. Counselor or teacher. Learn to say “NO”!

Reader, might I suggest finding a licensed counselor who is adept at helping you to navigate through the very difficult situation you’re in? A counselor or therapist might be able to help you with coping strategies that can allow you to process all of the deep emotions that are being dragged up by what could be a fraught ordeal. One thing that come up with the Queen of Cups is a warning to only give what is comfortable. Learn not to allow yourself to be drained by others’ unceasing requests, at least until you’re through this and feeling stable and grounded again.

Card 3: 5 of Wands reversed

Spirit: What brings you serenity? How can you be true to your Higher Self?

Being sucked into other people’s drama. The little things that drive you crazy escalate into a real problem. Too distracted. Can’t focus on what is really important.

This is a time to stay out of other people’s soap operas. Do not allow yourself to be distracted by anything that isn’t related to your goals. Don’t be drawn into discord with another. Instead, get serious about attaining the life you want for yourself.

Card 4, Advice: Knight of Pentacles

Steady as she goes. Little by little. The turtle wins the race.

Reader, try to remember that it’s okay that needed changes will not happen overnight. Instead, do a little something every day to move yourself closer to the live you want to have. Go at a slow pace, but go. You’ll get there before you know it.
