Universal Year 9, The Hermit

I’ve been reading Tarot for more than thirty years and reading professionally at Seattle’s Edge of the Circle Books for more than 15 years. My belief is that Tarot is best used for putting you in touch with your own subconscious, allowing you to make healthy decisions that can change your life for the better. My readings tend to be commonsensical, geared toward helping the client deal with issues and obstacles to wholeness in a way that brings a sense of self-empowerment.

Today, I thought I’d do a Tarotscope for the New Year and see if we could come up with positive guidance for the future. I’ve been seeing a lot of doom and gloom predictions, prophecies of all sorts of disasters and calamities. What I’d like for you all to receive from this Tarotscope is a feeling of Hope.

I used a different approach to doing this Tarotscope than I usually do. Instead of shuffling cards and laying them out in a spread, I calculated the numerological value of the Universal Year 2016: 2+0+1+6=9, which reveals a Nine Universal Year. I then chose the Major Arcana Cards that corresponded to those numbers.

Let’s see what the cards have to say:

Card 1: IX, The Hermit

The Hermit’s number is 9, so humanitarianism may be one of the major themes of the year. We may become keenly aware of inequities and tragedy in the world, in a way we haven’t, prior to this year. There may be a lot of folks doing a lot of soul-searching deep within. People may wish for more solitude. There may be more people doing one-one- one activity, rather than large group activities. People may even wish to withdraw from being too much in the world, preferring instead a more introspective existence. We’re less likely to buy the party line and instead rely on our own inner wisdom for guidance.

Card 2: II , The High Priestess

As advice for the upcoming year, The High Priestess might be saying to us that we should learn to trust our intuition, to learn to go with our guts. This might be a time to wait and see what way the wind is blowing before making major decisions. We may all need to practice the art being able to be compassionate, and giving, but balanced enough to set boundaries with others.

Card 3: 0, The Fool

The 0 gives the expression of this year a certain spiritual focus. This shines a light on expectations of all kinds, particularly faith in one’s own abilities to create positive changes in one’s life. One must be careful not to put their faith in the wrong things or people, especially politicians!

Card 4: I, The Magician

I suspect that with the influence of The Magician, Creativity, Independent Expression, and all sorts of Media/Communications will take center stage. This tells me that there are a lot of opportunities for those who want to be entrepreneurs, or having independent small businesses. There may be a start-up boom this year.

Card 5: VI, The Lovers

At some point in 2016, there may come the knowledge that it’s time to make some very heavy choices, and all of us may have the same challenge: to make the healthiest choices that we can for ourselves. This can refer to relationships, but it may also herald choices that completely change the direction of our lives.

Karmic Number 16: The Tower

In the year 2016, the number 16, which in Numerology is considered a “Karmic Debt Number”, is present. It may mean that we could be challenged to think of others more, and be less self-centered. This is not going to be a year for us to retreat into our own little bubbles. Indeed, this year could very well herald the return of actual face-to-face conversations in cafes! We’re being given an opportunity to re-learn humility and modesty, and to learn to put others’ interest above our own. The Tarot Card corresponding to this number is The Tower, which signals an opportunity to restructure our lives in profound, life-changing ways. Remember, it’s our job to move in the most positive, fulfilling ways that we can.
