Two roads diverged in a wood, and I –
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
― Robert Frost

Sometimes in life, we have to make the difficult decision between working with family and family connections versus working with professionals who might be better equipped to handle our affairs. Trying to figure out which one to choose can be a real quandary.

That’s what was on the mind of this week’s questioner, Anonymous, who says: Should I use a real estate agent (my daughter set me up with her friend who is a Windermere agent–I have not signed with this person), or go through a real estate attorney?

Hi there, Anon! The situation you’re describing can be a tricky one. One doesn’t want to insult the daughter or her friend by giving a knee-jerk no, but one doesn’t want to discard her ideas out of hand, either. But what if the real estate attorney is the best choice? It’s a sticky situation!

This week, I used a Future Trends Spread because I felt that it could shed light on different areas of your life in relation to your question. It’s also a good spread for seeing where you’re headed and can give you some clues as to what actions to take if you’re not thrilled with the outcome.

Once I’ve shuffled, cut and laid out the cards, I like to take a look at the card on the bottom of the deck. This card represents the Spirit or Higher Self. What I mean by this is that this card is received from the part of your subconscious that works for your highest good, and helps you make decisions in your own best interest.

The card that falls here is the 6 of Swords. The very first thing I thought when I saw this card was that underneath everything, Anon, there’s a need to leave situations that are emotionally painful, or are causing you distress. You’re doing that by carefully formulating a plan for long-term gains in the future that bring a sense of right-livelihood. This is about freeing yourself from an unsatisfactory life by being cool-headed and making shrewd plans. In other words, not so much an escape as a strategic retreat!

On to the reading!

This Future Trends Spread factors in suggestions and advice for positive change from the Tarot regarding these areas: What your expectations are for your endeavor; Who or what can or will help; Where this leads, and the projected outcome and how you’ll feel about it.

Here we go.

Card 1: Expectations For This Endeavor

The card I pulled for this position is the 5 of Pentacles, reversed. Money is no longer the issue. You may now have the means to do something you’ve really wanted to do, or to purchase something you’ve wished for ardently. What this card tells me is that you expect to have more than enough money from the sale of your home to do what you’re planning. This card may also signal a return to work–particularly work that you love. This is a time to get the best bang for your buck, make your money really work for you.

Card 2: Helpers and Resources

The card pulled for this position is 2 of Cups, reversed. Hmm. There may be a disconnect between you and your daughter’s friend. It may be that you and someone else doesn’t quite see eye-to-eye with you about your plans. Maybe folks need a bit of a time-out in order to gain some perspective. In any case, if I were you, I’d focus on getting someone to work with who is wholeheartedly on your side, or, at least, able be completely objective. What’s most important is someone who understands what you want, and will do everything in their power to achieve that. You don’t have to be bosom buddies with them for you to get what you need from this working relationship!

Card 3: Future Trends

The card that falls here is the Knight of Cups, reversed. The Knight of Cups can be a little like an ungrounded teenager–a bit flaky. Be sure that those you work with are capable of following through. People can dream all they want, but actually doing what they say they’re gonna do is a different story. Get dependable, reliable people to work with! Be very careful of those who live with their heads in the clouds.

Card 4: Projected Outcome

The card here is the 6 of Pentacles, reversed. Be careful about your tendency to be over-generous with those who do not give back! There’s a need to insist on equal exchanges only. In other words, everybody’s gotta pitch in, or you’ll end up feeling very, very drained– both energetically and fiscally.

Make sure your new property isn’t a money pit!

Wrapping It Up

Anon, the impression that I’m getting here is that you need to use your best judgment, and possibly keep business and family separated, at least for the time being. Sometimes it’s necessary to go with the person whose sole purpose is to serve you to the best of their ability, without being affected by their own personal opinions or motivations. Be cautious of those who come to you for handouts without bringing something of equal value to the table. Be clear in your vision, choose your companions wisely and things will work out splendidly. Good luck with your new home!
