An Evening with Mal DeFleur and Princess Charming
Sunday, July 31 / 8pm
Chop Suey (1325 E Madison St, Seattle)
$8 / 21+

This week’s Adrian Ryan Approved Event™ is, as you might expect, the fabulous Comeback Reunion, whence we shall come together to remember, relive, and celebrate one of the most successful and much-missed queer club dance events Seattle has ever seen. But actually, PSYCH! That’s not my approved event at all! (Or, well, not mostly…) I knew you thought that that is what I would chose as this week’s signature event, but, YOU DON’T KNOW ME! Instead? Well, this weekend I choose to look forward, not back, and on the horizon I see nothing but An Evening with Mal DeFleur and Princess Charming! The event promises to be a dazzling evening of stories, song, and surprises, but most of all, a chance for all of us to wallow in the luminescent effervescence of Princess Superstar, who has been described as, “a tragic, aging, cabaret chanteuse with a jaded demeanor and a failing liver” (delightful!) and Mal DeFleur, who is nothing less than a creative collaboration between Seattle vocalist/performer Bradford Schroeder, pianist Christopher Jones and makeup artist/impresario Jack Caton. Need more? Listen to this, “(Mal DeFleur) is a non-gendered/non-nationalized chanteuse, who recontextualizes the modern cannon through the lens of the cabaret tradition. Gershwin resides alongside Kim Gordon.” Fabulous!
