The Television Academy just announced the nominees for the 71st Emmy Awards, including several nominations for queer folks.
The FX series Pose picked up six nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama for Billy Porter. Despite having the largest trans cast on scripted television, none of the trans cast members from Pose were nominated.
Trans actor Laverne Cox received her 3rd nomination though, again for Orange is the New Black. Cox remains the only trans person to ever receive an Emmy nomination for acting.
Sandra Oh, who last year became the first Asian woman to get a Lead Actress nomination, received two nominations this year. Oh was nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama for Killing Eve, and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy for Saturday Night Live. Kate McKinnon was also nominated for Saturday Night Live, her 7th nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series.
Jane Lynch received her 12th nomination, and her 2nd for Guest Actress in a Comedy for her role on the The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
The Netflix comedy Special, created by and starring queer creator Ryan O’Connell, was given three nominations. Schitt’s Creek, which features gay actor Dan Levy, received four nominations, including Best Comedy Series. And, perennial reality show faves RuPaul’s Drag Race and Queer Eye each received 9 and 6 nominations, respectively.
Congrats to all of the queer folks and TV shows that received Emmy nominations this year!
